Every month we visit a creative, colorful and inspiring person. She or he is the ' bedMATE of the month'.
The bedMATE is the most iconic item in our collection. The extra long pillow serves as a headboard , but also as a cuddle buddy, a friend who gives support.
We crawl into bed with the 'bedMATE of the month. We take a look at their home and their colorful bedroom. In conversation we discover how they experience the SUITE life . What's going on in their heads? Where do they get their inspiration from? What color do they dream in?
This month, all-round creative Nicole Huisman visited Tatjana Almuli.
Discuss difficult topics. That is the overarching theme of everything Tatjana Almuli (30) does. After her participation in the television program Obese, she started sharing her thoughts about self-image, ideals of beauty, self-love and weight - in her circle of friends, with family, but also on social media - and this was received with praise. In 2019, her first book, 'Pretty for a fat girl' (go read it!) will be published, where she delves deeper into these topics and describes disarmingly what it's like to be fat in a country where being thin is the norm. As a journalist she writes about these difficult designs for magazines such as LINDA.Meiden, ELLE, Vogue and VICE and her work as a photographer each tells a story.
The first thing you notice in Tatyana's house is her HUGE bookcase. Tatjana tells hundreds of her favorites (and Nicole appears to have the same taste and is happy to borrow a composite pile from Tatjana). Her apartment in Slotervaart in Amsterdam is a cozy mess with lots of flowers, photos, plants and a sweet little cat, Stevie (fun fact: named after Stevie Nicks, lead singer of Fleetwood Mac, Tatjana's all time favorite band). In her bedroom we find a soft color palette in Pistachio (bedding), Blush (bigDOT) and Lilac Gray (bedMATE), and her favorite, the purple water bottle. Every corner tells a story, and so does Tatjana. While chatting and laughing she talks about how proud she is of where she is at the moment in life, what is going on at the moment and (just gave a moving speech as a speaker at the opening of an exhibition) and what she dreams of .
When Tatyana was 16, her mother passed away. About delayed grief, in the middle of her own processing, she wrote her second book, which was released at the beginning of this year, 'I will never again'. A woman we can only admire immensely, an inspiring example.
